Threat evaluation is to predict the enemy's intentions and determine engagement priorities on consideration of the level of threats. The reason why threat evaluation is important is that there are always constraints on the capability of defense systems, when considering the number of assets to be defended. In modern warfare, it is necessary to evaluate various aerial threats, including aircraft, guided missiles and unmanned aerial vehicle. When evaluating such threats, operators should consider not only quantitative factors but also qualitative factors such as air defense principles. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide a highly reliable and faster method of selecting engagement priorities, including air defense principles which are applied according to the various types of aerial threats. In the proposed method, fuzzy theory, which is used to express numerically complex situation, making it more easily understood, is applied and fuzzy variables are selected for both quantitative and qualitative factors. In order to verify the proposed method, the engagement priorities of the method are compared with those of 18 experts in the Patriot system and air defense operations under the simulated environment. The result shows that the proposed method provides similar engagement priorities. |
